Why women's saving groups are the heart of GDO's work

60 community organisations, 26 women saving groups and 10 village forums — how organised villages become resilient.

GDO's approach is simple: “Together everyone achieves more.” Instead of working with families one by one, we work with organised groups so that people shape the changes that affect their lives.

In Tehsil Karor Lal Esan, GDO has formed 60 Community Organisations, 26 Women Saving Groups, 10 Village Forums (AVF), one Union Council forum and one Tehsil forum. In these groups, 80% of participants are women and 20% are men, and members are trained in community management and leadership.

Saving groups matter because they build financial habits and trust before a loan is ever taken, they give women a recognised place in decisions, and they make repayment a shared responsibility. That is one reason GDO reports a recovery rate of 99.6% and why many clients take successive loans.

Social mobilisation is also how we reach new villages: wherever we find uncovered areas, we form new groups and strengthen existing ones through capacity building.
