Programme

Disaster risk management & shelter

GDO responds to floods with relief and one-room shelters for affected families — the Shelter Project ran from 2013 to 2016 with OPP/RTI — and builds community readiness for future disasters.

The challenge

Why this matters

Floods destroy homes and livelihoods of rural families who have no savings to rebuild, leaving them in tents and debt.

What GDO does

  • Flood relief activities for affected communities
  • One-room shelters for flood-affected families
  • Community mobilisation so groups can prepare and respond together
  • Linking affected families back to livelihoods and micro-credit
