Programme

Health & sanitation

GDO builds community-led sanitation schemes (drains, sewer lines and manholes), spreads hygiene awareness and has run free medical camps, so villages in Karor Lal Esan live in cleaner, healthier surroundings.

The challenge

Why this matters

Open drains and stagnant water in village streets spread disease, and families with few resources cannot build sewerage on their own.

What GDO does

  • Community-built street sewer lines and brick manhole chambers, designed with residents
  • Awareness sessions for a clean environment and hygiene
  • Free medical camps, mass awareness on disease and free medicines for the needy
  • AAWAZ project: community health awareness, conflict resolution and women's empowerment in UC Basera

Frequently asked questions

Questions about this programme

How are sanitation schemes built?

GDO works with community organisations so residents take part in planning and building their own street schemes, which brings ownership and long-term care.
